UEFA Champions league returns in August, with Lisbon expected to host the final in a 12-day condensed contest. Timo Werner, RB Leipzig goal machine is set to miss his club return to the quarter finals.

This happens to be the first time it reaches the quarter final in the champions league history.

Werner desires to leave Leipzig and join Chelsea once the Bundesliga season ends.

Reports were that the 24-year-old forward wants to seal up his Bundesliga games with Leipzig, but skip the UEFA Champions League which comes up in August.

“He may even move at the end of June when the Bundesliga concludes”, claims the Daily Express.

As Sports Bild claims, “Werner, for now, remains adamant about flying to London and joining Frank Lampard’s squad as soon as the 2019/20 Bundesliga season comes to a close”.

A deal in Motion

Initially, Leipzig Chief reported that “no deal have been agreed in principle”.

But it is believed Chelsea agreed to meet his buyout clause of £54 million ($68m) ahead of a move to Stamford Bridge next season.

Elsewhere, reports has it that Werner verbally agreed personal terms with Chelsea in a five-year deal worth £200,000 a week after being won over by Chelsea’s manager Frank Lampard and Petr Cech, a technical and performance advisor for Chelsea.

Werner who agreed personal terms with Chelsea was also sort after by the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United.

The German International has 31 goals to his name in all competitions this season.

He has been able to amass 25 league goals, only bettered by Robert Lewandowski.

He is expected to complete the transfer to the Stamford Bridge side, Chelsea.

Through his help, Leipzig reached the last eight of the Champions League for the first time.

Tottenham were sent home in March through a 4-0 aggregate defeat by Leipzig.

It would be a big blow to Leipzig, who are yet to find out their next opponent in the quarter final.

Leipzig have three Bundesliga fixtures remaining with the season coming to an end on June 27.

The Champions league is set to take place in August once the domestic seasons are completed in Europe.

So what next for Leipzig and Werner?

Now that Timo Werner is adamant on leaving, will manager Julian Nagelsman continue playing him?

Werner may not just miss the remaining three games, but may miss out on the Champions league trophy.

Leipzig which is in the race of its life in Europe may shock the world of sports by winning the 2019/2020 UEFA Champions league trophy, which if Werner departs may miss out as well.
