Former Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara is set to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season.
Thiago who joined the German side from Barcelona in July 2013 is said to want a new experience as his career winds down.
The 29 year old has only a year left on his contract.
Bayern CEO Rummenigge was adamant Bayern will not allow any player leave on a free transfer.
“We do not want to lose any player for free next year. I will say that very clearly.”
“We negotiated seriously with him and satisfied all his wishes”
“But it looks like he would like to try something new again at the end of his career.”
These statements clearly meaning they would want the Spaniard to leave but not on a free transfer.
He described Thiago as a top guy on and off the pitch and would have loved to see him continue at the club.
Gifted with excellent vision and silky skills, he fit Bayern’s play-style like a glove.
The only blight in his very successful career is his knack for injuries but even at that Thiago is easily one of the best midfielders in the World.
Rumors
This past week news has been flying around of his imminent departure with Liverpool looking interested.
It is also rumored the transfer would cost the buying team about 30 million euros.
Verdict
At 30 million euros for a 29 year old player, it would be easy to brandish his transfer as a waste of money but far from it.
Thiago brings to a midfield what many other midfielders wish they could but cannot.
After passing up on Timo Werner due to transfer fees Liverpool it is highly doubtful he makes the leap to the English Champions.
Arsenal, Chelsea, Barcelona and the likes will surely be putting ears to the ground concerning this rumor.
Thiago has won 7 consecutive Bundesliga titles playing a key role in all.
